Good Beer Guide selection

It is time to consider entries for the next edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

In the North Hampshire area selection of entries is based primarily on the National Beer Scoring Scheme – a system whereby any CAMRA member can log their rating of a particular pub's  beer quality.
This is done through the WhatPub website against each pub's listing.

See: WHATPUB

Last year over 2000 local 'scores' were recorded and the top pubs at the end of the year make the final shortlist. Local meetings are then held in both the west and the east of our CAMRA area to ensure geographical spread. In addition there is the opportunity for any member to make separate nominations. The selection is wholly transparent  and democratic but it is up to real ale drinkers to provide their input.

The Good Beer Guide is wholly independent and no one can buy an entry unlike many other guides and neither is any pub is automatically included because it "was in last year".

As space in the book is limited, only 25 pubs in the area (around 10%) can be included, but that doesn't mean these are the only good pubs – far from it. Many more may be eligible but as with all publishing, space is a constraint.
Yes, a very small number of people do complain that their 'favourite' pub may not been included, but the question must be – did you take part and submit beer quality feedback?

So get listing those beer scores NOW – the deadline will be the end of 2016 for consideration of entries for the next edition of the Beer Drinkers' Bible.
It is fast approaching!

Red Cat Showcase beers

Red Cat Brewery, a new award winning brewery in Winchester, are to showcase their beers at a small Beer Festival at the Sports and Social Club in Whitchurch on Saturday 5th November, starting at noon and running right through to 11.30pm – so just turn up anytime.

The brewery is renowned for the quality of its ales and for the variety and character of their beers. It is likely that at least seven of their brews will be available. In addition there will be a real cider and a real perry, like the beer, produced in Hampshire.

In addition there will be live entertainment from local musicians and pub-style food throughout the day.

CAMRA will also be meeting and enjoying a social at the Club during the festival.
CAMRA publishes the annual Good Beer Guide, and the Sports and Social Club have been included in the new 2017 edition of the book, just published. The Club has also been voted as the CAMRA Club of the Year for north west Hampshire for which there will be a presentation.

Entry is free and all are welcome.

OctoberFest 2016

A very Big Thanks are due to all CAMRA members and friends who helped with the beer at the Hampshire OctoberFest, held on May's Bounty.
The event with its wide range of Live Music, stalls and Family Attractions attracted thousands.

CAMRA receives funds for helping with the management of the beer and cider so all help has been very much worthwhile.

A Beer of the Festival will be announced in due course.
